I had the pleasure of giving my talk on the Kirtland's Warbler before two more great Wisconsin bird clubs recently: the Benjamin F. Goss Bird Club in Waukesha, and the Ned Hollister Bird Club in Beloit. (The map above is a slide from my talk. It shows how the warbler is expanding its breeding range north to the U.P., west to Wisconsin, and east to Ontario.) I had a great time at each meeting.
Thank you, Harvey Larson, Mike Ramsden, and all club members, for inviting me. Thank you for your interest and excellent questions. And many, many thanks for the cookies. They were every bit as delicious as the cookies offered by the Lakeland Audubon Society in January.
And as long as I'm thanking people, I'd also like to thank writer and journalism instructor Dave Thome for being brave enough to invite me to speak to his undergraduate writing class in Marquette University's College of Communication in February. And for the second time, too! My subject wasn't the Kirtland's Warbler; it was perhaps my favorite subject: writing and editing, and the duties of a magazine editor. (I didn't tell the kids about eating cookies.)
And I'd be remiss if I didn't also give a shout-out to the Boy Scouts of Troop 63, Potawatomi Area Council, Fox River District. They invited me to one of their mid-March meetings to learn about the steps required to get a Bird Study Merit Badge. Thanks to all of them for their friendliness and hospitality! -- C.H.
And the contributing editors...working with them has to be a highlight.

But did you tell them about the muffins? Muffins are a major editorial perk :)
